We are currently assisting our client in their search for a Construction Controller.

Summary

This position will report to the President/CEO and will be responsible for the direct financial activities, such as planning, organizing, directing and controlling the day-to-day operations of the firm. The position encompasses a wide range of activities with involvement in all phases of administration, human resources, finance and facilities. The Controller works closely with the CEO on all areas of the financial affairs for this position, problem solving and decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Control office workflow to regulate and maintain a balanced workload for administrative staff
    with minimum overtime.
  • Standardize accounting procedures, systems and forms. Recommend system revisions and
    implement new forms and procedures as necessary.
  • Perform controllership functions, including approving all expenditures, signing checks,
    monitoring cash flow and accounts receivable.
  • Preparation of firm’s monthly and annual financial statements and tax returns, and other
    financial and practice management reports.

  • Develop and maintain control over purchasing supplies.
  • Act as liaison with banks on line-of-credit, monitor account balances, electronic payments
    and wires transfers online.
  • Assist with collection of overdue accounts and review client credit card transactions.
  • Review employee time sheets and expense reports for propriety and substantiation.
  • Supervise time and billing system.
  • Supervise administrative staff performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties.
  • Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of an organization.
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Advise CEO on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
  • Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of administrative staff, recommending and implementing personnel actions, such as promotions and dismissals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Delegate authority for the receipt, disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
  • Lead staff training and development in budgeting and financial management areas.
  • Prepare financial information so that outside accountants can complete tax returns.
  • Receive cash and checks and make deposits.
  • Perform tax planning work.
  • Oversee collection calls and allocates customer payments.
  • Manages inventory program.
  • Prepare Key Performance Indicators for CEO review.
  • Prepare and coordinate with all divisions annual budgets.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Direct or coordinate organization’s financial or budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, or increase efficiency.
  • Analyze operations to evaluate performance of a company or its staff in meeting objectives or to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Controller in the contactor industry.
  • 2+ years’ experience with responsibility for budgeting, finance, and time and billing.
  • Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well with diverse personalities; tactful, mature and flexible.
  • Ability to operate independently, organize, plan and “self-manage” projects.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive, but able to recognize and support the CEO’s preferences and priorities.
  • Results and profit-oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
  • Participative management style, advocate team concept.
  • High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
