Now that summer is well underway, it’s time to look forward to another round of sales tax holidays.

Many of the sales tax holidays that were in effect last year returned for 2019, but there have been some changes, including:

  • Louisiana, with a sales tax holiday since 2009, has suspended all tax holidays until 2025.
  • West Virginia has enacted legislation to conduct an annual back-to-school sales tax holiday beginning in 2021
  • Wisconsin had its first sales tax holiday in 2018, but the state does not plan to have one in 2019.

Most of the holidays are associated with back-to-school time or severe weather preparedness. Here is what you need to know.
